
Visit to VIT-AP University in Andhra Pradesh
Professor Kaori Hayashi, Executive Vice President; and Associate Professor Yoshiyuki Kawazoe (Institute of Industrial Science) visited VIT-AP University (Vellore Institute of Technology – Andhra Pradesh University) in Amaravati on 2 September 2025.
VIT-AP is a university established in 2017 in the Greenfield city of Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. Year on year the number of students has been increasing to its current 19,000 of undergraduate and graduate students. They plan to continue expanding to its capacity of 90,000 students by expanding the university site. Students from all over India are accepted at VIT-AP, though 35% is reserved for local students.
Explanation was given on their Centers of Excellence which they intend to increase. They have over 80 MOUs with universities and institutions from all over the world, including Japan, such as the Japan Intercultural Institute, and expressed their interest in discussing technology collaboration with the University of Tokyo.
They further explained that the region has a strong tradition in higher education and that the government policies ensure that local students benefit from the university.
