Academic Year 2025 Research Restart and Work-Life Balance Support Programs

Eligibility

Faculty members (excluding professors), full-time project faculty members (excluding project professors), or fulltime project researchers who fall under any of the following:
(1)Those who are living with and nurturing a child (or children) under school age [childcare]
(2)Those who are living with and primarily taking care of a relative who has been certified as needing care [family care]
(3)Those who have other reasons similar to the above

Details

1.Support for Research Restart
support

The program allocates grants for restarting research to researchers who have returned (or are returning) in 2024 or 2025 from any of the leave or time-off described below. However, the maximum grant of JPY 1,000,000 shall be limited to one time per child or relative for whose care the researcher has taken the leave or the time-off. In case of difficulties in executing the entire budget due to the timing of return or other reasons, the researcher may apply for a maximum grant of JPY 500,000.

a. Childcare leave during or after maternity leave
b. Childcare leave of three months or more
c. Family care leave of three months or more

Amount of subsidy Maximum of JPY 1,000,000 per academic year
Number of recipients About 15

2.Continued Support for Research Restart
support

Research grant will be allocated to researchers who fall under the following categories for career development during the restart period:

a. Those who returned to work after maternity leave or childcare leave taken after maternity leave in or after AY2019
b. Those who returned to work after childcare leave or family care leave of three months or more in or after AY2023

Amount of subsidy Maximum of JPY 500,000 per academic year
Number of recipients About 40

3.Work-Life Balance Support
support

The program allocates funds, to cover the personnel expenses for employing research support staff, to researchers balancing childcare or family care with education and research. Those who fall under  (1) and wish to receive this grant are required to have taken either of the following leave or time-off:

a. (Neonatal) Childcare leave
b. Time-off for childbirth by partner (special time-off)

Amount of subsidy Maximum of JPY 500,000 per academic year
Number of recipients About 10

※The support period will be from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.

The application period for the current academic year*

Friday, April 11,2025-Friday ,May 30,2025
