In the recent Universities for International Research Excellence selection review, it was decided that the University of Tokyo would be subject to continued review.

While it is deeply regrettable that we were not selected at this stage, we understand that our reform initiatives aimed at playing a leading role in scholarship and social innovation did receive positive recognition. Those initiatives include the operational and financial strategies under our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the introduction of the university-wide infrastructure to be called Global Research Integration (GRI), and the establishment of the Academic Management Headquarters to promote organizational renewal and revitalization across the university.

We will respond promptly and sincerely to the feedback asking for more specific confirmation of our new criteria for resource allocation, our internal consensus-building, and our governance structure as an incorporated institution. Furthermore, we take very seriously the points raised regarding our institutional response to compliance issues, and we will further accelerate our university-wide efforts to address them.

Based on the feedback received from the Advisory Board, we will proactively advance our self-transformation into a university with value-creation capabilities, international competitiveness, and capacity for autonomous growth. The entire university will work together to fully address the points identified as requiring confirmation in order for our institution to be selected.
