Professor Kaori Hayashi, Executive Vice President and Associate Professor Yoshiyuki Kawazoe (Institute of Industrial Science) met with Professor Veezhinathan Kamakoti, Director – Indian Institute of Technology Madras on 1 September 2025.
They learnt about the difficulties as well as the merits of operating universities in India and the challenges of opening a new IIT Madras overseas campus (Zanzibar, Tanzania) from Professor Kamakoti, as well as discussed about possible areas of future collaborations between IIT Madras and the University of Tokyo, such as joint education programs.
Following the discussions, they were given a tour of the campus as well as a quick visit to the IITM Research Park adjacent to the campus. They were also shown the site where a new music hall was being constructed using bamboo as the primary material.
